After the votes were cast and the dust had settled, one thing remained clear: President Trump has a magic about him.
Pollsters and political analysts repeatedly claimed Republicans would lose big, that Democrats would gain control of Congress, and that the vote was going to be a referendum on Trump, but Trump again defied the odds.
And more than withstanding, surviving, or holding Democrats at bay, Trump actually gained seats in the Senate, becoming one of just a handful of president’s do so in the last 105 years.
The president touted the achievement in a series of tweets from Tuesday night and extending into Wednesday morning.
“Tremendous success tonight. Thank you to all!” Trump said.
Trump also shared a quote from television personality and political analyst Ben Stein.
“There’s only been 5 times in the last 105 years that an incumbent President has won seats in the Senate in the off year election. Mr. Trump has magic about him. This guy has magic coming out of his ears. He is an astonishing vote getter & campaigner. The Republicans are unbelievably lucky to have him and I’m just awed at how well they’ve done. It’s all the Trump magic – Trump is the magic man. Incredible, he’s got the entire media against him, attacking him every day, and he pulls out these enormous wins.”
The president also shared a remark from Fox Business Network’s David Asman: “How do the Democrats respond to this? Think of how his position with Republicans improves-all the candidates who won tonight. They realize how important he is because of what he did in campaigning for them. They owe him their political career.”
“Thanks, I agree!” Trump said in response.
Trump also said he received congratulations from heads of state around the world. Now, Trump said, he was going to “get back to work and get things done.”
